Description

Hear the preview performance of Ehsan Aman who was spotlighted in a first person piece that aired on Aug. 7th, 2008. He's an Afghan musician and pop singer. He became a big star in the early 80s but had to flee the country in 1981 after the regime (country was under Soviet control at that time) started putting pressure on him to perform pro-regime material. At that time musicians started to 'disappear', his father in law who was a big figure (his name was Nainawaz) disappeared, later they found out he'd been executed. This all led Ehsan to flee to Pakistan, from there he applied for Asylum in the US and he came to Virginia. He gave up his music career and worked as an engineer for 12 years, but after he got laid off he decided to give music another go. He tours Europe and the US but still hasn't made it back to Afghanistan, he doesn't think it's safe enough.
